    Athletics

     Spurgeon "Spud" Chandler - Professional baseball player. He pitched for the New York Yankees from 1937 to 1947. He won the AL MVP award in 1943 and holds several New York Yankee records

     

    Politics

    Robert L.F. Sikes - U.S. Representative from Florida (1945 to 1975)

    Tommy Irvin - Georgia Commissioner of Agriculture, served from 1969 to 2011. Holds record for longest serving Commissioner of Agriculture in the United States. 

    Charles H. Bronson - Florida Commissioner of Agriculture, served from 2001 to 2011.

    Gary Black - Georgia Commissioner of Agriculture, 2011 to present.

     

    Education

    Dr. Andrew M. Soule- Dean, UGA College of Agriculture.  Under Dr. Soule's leadership, the Schools of Forestry, Veterinary Medicine and Home Economics were established as departments of the College of Agriculture. 

    Dr. Calvin C. Murray- Dean, UGA College of Agriculture. He established a statewide soil testing program, organized the Georgia Plan Food Educational Society and created the Georgia Agribusiness Council.
